ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project overview.

The architectural design presented for Loutraki House is by architect Serdar Akbulut.

Designed on a sloping 5,270 m² site in Loutraki, Greece, Loutraki House reinterprets the simple volumes, natural materials and outdoor living traditions of Aegean architecture as a contemporary holiday home. Developed by Serdar Akbulut / Vitruvius Architecture, the project distributes its 415 m² of enclosed floor area across four single-storey buildings rather than a single volume. Two guest buildings accommodate four guest bedrooms in total, alongside a shared living pavilion and a separate principal bedroom pavilion for the owners. This arrangement balances gathering together with individual privacy. The slope is a defining element of the architectural composition. Buildings at different levels are linked by stairs and open-air passages. Descending from the entrance, this circulation sequence becomes more than a functional connection: it creates a distinctive arrival experience in which the spaces are gradually revealed. Stone surfaces, simple light-toned volumes and timber shading structures articulate the transitions between interiors and landscape. Natural textures and restrained detailing continue through the interior design, giving the separate buildings a coherent identity. With summer life expected to take place largely outdoors, terraces, shaded seating and dining spaces, and the poolside are conceived as extensions of the enclosed rooms. Interconnected outdoor and semi-outdoor areas at different levels offer a variety of settings throughout the day. Dedicated parking for the owners and a six-car open-air guest parking area complete the arrival and access programme. Loutraki House approaches holiday-home design on a sloping site through independent living units, shared gathering spaces and continuity between indoors and outdoors, expressed in a simple, contemporary architectural language.

DESIGN FOCUS

Holiday home and villa design

Loutraki House exemplifies the holiday-home and interior design approach developed in Greece by Istanbul-based Serdar Akbulut / Vitruvius Architecture. On a 5,270 m² plot, 415 m² of enclosed space is distributed across two guest buildings, a shared living pavilion and a principal bedroom pavilion. Four guest bedrooms, stepped connections, generous outdoor living areas and six guest parking spaces are considered together with privacy and shared use in the design of a villa on a sloping site.

  • Single-storey residential planning on a sloping site
  • Four guest bedrooms in two guest buildings
  • Separate principal bedroom and shared living pavilions
  • Stepped entrance and circulation sequence
  • Terraces, shading and poolside living
